2020 Human Resource Law Seminar Series - 4 seminars by Ford Harrison: 
Session 1: “No Union, No Matter – How Board Decisions Impact You!“

  • At the end of 2019, the Labor Board issued a flurry of rulings which have a significant impact on both unionized and non-unionized workplaces.  This program will cover how the decisions have changed the legal landscape, often returning to a previous legal standard. These rulings impact employees’ ability to use work email,  arbitration deferrals, and prohibitions on discussing pending investigations, among others.  We will also conduct a brief review of Wage and Hour updates for 2020.
 
Session 2: “Creating a Culture of Safety Using OSHA and Drug-Free Workplace Standards and Workers’ Compensation Laws.”
  •  In this session, we will review the interrelating requirements placed on employers regarding workplace safety.  From drug-free workplace policies, to workers’ compensation coverage and obligations, we will analyze what a business must do to remain compliant.  We will also address the obligations enforced by the Occupational Safety and Health Agency, or OSHA.  We will also provide an update on wage and hour developments.
 
Session 3: “Election 2020: What Your Vote Means”
  • . Which political party controls congress or the White House has a long-term impact on federal employment laws.  The President’s agenda or an ambitious legislature can affect employer obligations just as directly as agency regulations.  This session will cover what employers need to know about recent regulatory and statutory developments, and the proposals a new administration could bring.  We will review the impact of executive orders, wage and hour rules and proposals, and what difference a new regime in Washington could bring. 
 
Session 4: “I Say Harvey, You Say _____ - Workplace Harassment and Best Business Practices for the #MeToo Era”
  • With the increased focus and daily onslaught of sexual harassment allegations, this presentation will focus on what constitutes effective policies, investigations, and requirements for management level employees. This comprehensive program is aimed at aiding businesses in taking the appropriate actions and modifying current policy or training protocols to prevent and promptly correct harassment in today’s modern work environment. The presentation will also cover sexual harassment and training requirement laws. Despite only small changes to these topics at a federal level, local laws are moving forward at a much quicker pace.  We will review the impact of these trends within certain jurisdictions, in addition to the impact these laws may have across the country.
