Description

"State of our Environment: Microplastics in the Ocean"

Company: Envitracom
Speaker: Jocelyn Brown

Summary: Pictures of some of Local canals, streets, storm drains and discuss how littering is affecting everything from ocean life to us as consumers of seafood. Pictures from Gumbo Limbo of the trash that is in the stomach of the turtles they rescue.

  • Connection between stormwater and our drinking water,
  • Chemical make-up of a plastic bottle and how it is broken down into microplastics
  • How microplastics affect ocean life and eventually us!
Jocelyn Brown, founder of Envitracom, which stands for Environmental Training and Compliance is an Environmental Scientist by education and Environmental Compliance Manager and Trainer by experience. Jocelyn has 16 years of experience ranging from managing contaminated waste sites with Exxon Mobil and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, managing a large quantity generator’s hazardous waste, starting and managing the City of West Palm Beach’s Fats, Oils and Grease Program to prevent sewer overflows, to managing all of a citrus processing plant’s environmental permit requirements while creating and facilitating environmental training for full-time and seasonal employees ranging from Sanitation Specialist to President. She has seen how fun, engaging and interactive environmental awareness trainings and regular compliance inspections have made a positive impact on how employees view their everyday jobs and the natural resources they use to personally sustain their lives. These trainings have reduced waste and promoted employees to take pride of their work environment.
